Important Update on WhatsApp Template Categories from Meta

Important Update on WhatsApp Template Categories from Meta

As part of Meta’s latest enforcement policy, WhatsApp has begun automatically reclassifying message templates that do not align with their selected category. This can directly affect your billing and message delivery.

✅ What’s Happening:

  • Since June 1, 2024, Meta has started reclassifying templates (e.g., Utility templates used for promotional content are being moved to the Marketing category).

  • Starting April 1, 2025, businesses that continue misusing categories may face restrictions, including:

    • Written warnings from Meta

    • Rejection of all Utility templates

    • Blocking submission of new Utility templates and edits for 7 to 30 days

These changes are aimed at reducing spam and improving message quality on WhatsApp.

🔧 What We’re Doing About It:

We’re working on a system update, going live by Monday  28/4 , that will:

  • Instantly detect and reflect if Meta changes the category of your template to Marketing in Mottasl platform

  • Automatically update the billing and cost calculations based on the new classification

🔍 Until Then:

Please check your WhatsApp Business Profile inside Meta to confirm the current template classification. If Meta changes it to "Marketing", billing will be adjusted accordingly.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our support team.

Thank you
